Hi all!

My friend owns a 90 J19, it's had a new cambelt, new injectors, all filters etc.
It idled like a bag of s**t and had no go in it, there was no boost from the turbo, so we found a reconditioned turbo and put that on. Now the pipe that comes from the injection pump to the turbo is flowing diesel straight into the inlet side of the turbo and the engine starts to run on the extra diesel. Also, it still runs like a bag of s**t as if its misfiring and knocking.

Any help would be highly appreciated!
Thanks, Dan.

Sounds like the boost diaphragm has split.

Had a feeling it was going to be something along the lines of that, any ideas how much that would cost to fix?

Cheers bud.
Probably not much, take it to a fuel injection specialist and ask. they should be able to give you a rough price.
If you want to do it yourself the diaphragm itself is probably pennies, may need a few seals for the boost housing. Its late, not going to start reading punp manuals, but IIRC its a pretty easy job, think there is a little round cover unscrews and diaphragm and spring under.I think its awkward acces tho, the boost housing is sort of behind and under the pump body.
As with all injection pump work, you need to be absolutely clean and not contaminate the pump or fuel. Btw, I would be wary of driving that until its sorted.

Here is the boost housing, I think it will be full of fuel.
