I saw a patch of oil on my missis'(we live apart) drive this morning.I got home took off bellypan and saw the leak was coming from ird/gearbox joint.I've had the ird out a few times and never renewed the Oring,so I set about removing the fugker, just to change the Oring.
All was going well untill I got to removing the O/S ird/engine block bracket. There are 2 bolts on the back of this bracket that I had tightened far too tight the last time it was out.As I was trying to open said bolts I noticed a crack in the bracket.
My pizza is ready,so to cut a short story short. My dad drove me out to an engineering place a few miles away,I spoke to a polish guy who reckoned he'd weld it up for free, and he gave me 4 3mm orings, the one that came off is 2mm.I might start into refitting the ird in the dark underthe tarp...no I'll leave it till the morning.
Gotta collect the bracket from the guys house at 7 tonight,3-4 mile walk with the dog or risk getting pulled in the Alfa by the gardee.
:blabla: I do rant:blabla:

Just got back,my aluminium bracket is welded and looks stronger than new.A new one would have cost €160+fat,from the stealers. The guy was pleased to get a tenner,he had said he wouldn't charge.

Give me a shout in the morning if you need a hand. Not bad for free even if you gave him a tenner to stick in his pocket. Not too sure which bracket it is but for a bracket 160Eur is a rip off!

So what was it, a long walk or a bit of risky business with the alfa?

A long walk in the ****ing rain.
I would defly appreciate a bit of help tomorrow,I'll give you a shout. Not saying I'll ask for help, that would mean I'd have to clean this hovel up a bit.
Thanx,Crew-B.

Shame that after all that work a pipe ended up leaking. Still, at least it was only a pipe and nothing worse.

I totally forgot about the toll road. I swore at myself several times when i realised what i'd done  I should have let you go first!

I ripped out the alternator on Sunday and found that all the oil hoses in and out of it were cracked or split. So I spent yesterday morning phoning hose makers to see if I could get 1 high pressure hose fixed.I took said hose to 2 of them but no joy.I rang one place at about 5.20 yesterday and the guy I spoke to gave me the number of a guy who reckons he should be able to fix it.I'll try to post a pic of the hose later.
when I do get it sorted I have to get the engine bay cleaned up, oil eveywhere. The o/s brakes are covered in oil,its all splattered allalong the o/s doors.
I could have prevented this near catastrophy if I'd done something sooner about the trace apearance of oil under the alternator.
I have considered jizering the engine and bay and powerhosing the lot.Whats the best way to do this?I'm considering disconecting the entire wiring loom and taping plastic over all lekky connectors.Overkill?
