There i was thinking how nice it is to have a fault free p38 for the last few months and bang there goes my luck!

Had it parked at work for the whole day and parked it in the wrong spot and guess what i discover when i came back to it, fob wont arm or disarm,(loads of wireless signals around) had to go in with the key and then the engine disabled fault comes up, tried pressing the fob to disarm it and nothing. Then just to add insult flat battery!!

I ended up having to get a lift home, jumping on here and finding out i needed to resync the fob, went back to it went through the procedure and all is fine after a jump start.

What ive discovered now is that i need to go to the stealers and get a new rf reciever, prob a new battery, and im pretty sure a new fob, great!!!

My question to anyone is when the battery got really flat it was saying airbag fault now i thought it was probably just coming up with this as there was so little power left, any ideas? Also does anyone use a booster pack as ive been thinking of getting one to stick in the boot, any suggestions on what sort?

hi there mate i had exactly the same thing with mine, the battery started going flat, due to the rf reciever picking up wireless signals,i had to do the old put key in door lock etc to disarm immobilizer, now i dont use the fob i just lock the car with the key and not had a problem since that was 2 months ago, didnt need to replace rf reciever ,battery or fob.good luck

rf receiver if it is that buy one DIY will take 10-15 mins to do no experience necessary, recharge the battery, you don't need a new fob, look at the £££ i just saved you now!! go and do it an RF will cost (if again it is that) £75 DON'T buy it off ebay, people swap the old ones and put them in new boxes, you you just buy the old one and the new one cost them nothing

yeah ive got the part number now for the rf reciever, so will be heading down the stealers tomorrow, i do need to get another key though as ive only got the one, i know that it takes a couple of weeks for the key to be ordered in but when i do recieve it will it work straight away or will it need to be synced to my car?

what sort of booster pack are you using, been looking around but theres only quite expensive ones or the cheap type i.e halfords ones, just wondering if the cheaper ones have enough power in them.

Thats the correct part number

I used a Landy dealer in Nottingham (i Live nr Heathrow) but its the best dealer i have used free postage too, and a lot more helpful than my local dealer (only 1/2 a mile from me) who i don't now use, ring them on 0115 9578000 ASK for the discount, if you don't then you wont get it, i got mine for £110 by asking

it took literarily 5 mins to do, take the parcel shelf out fold up the back seat on the drivers side, pop out 5 press studs, and unhook the 3 latches against the window, (or just 1 or 2 and use a stubby Phillips screwdriver) unscrew the 1 screw holing the part down, pull it up at and angle and take out the 2 connectors, put them in the new part, angle the part so the lug goes back in screw it down again, and push the parcel shelf home, 5 push studs back in, parcel shelf back on and the jobs a good’un it took me just 5 mins to do, (I timed it)

Mine is similar to this one on e-bay: 370185992625

I bought it initially for my transit, but now the tranny has gone, it lives in the p38!
On a couple of occasions when the rr has been dead, this booster has done its job fine.

I bought a Clarke Jumpstart 4000 from Machine Mart when I had similar trouble with my DT last year. Alright it was £95 to buy, but what a gadget, it will start 4 litre diesel engines no trouble at all and in general use it will start 4- 5 engines from flat batteries before it needs re- charging. I got the nick name Jump-start Johnny now in my road. Yes I can thoroughly reccommend this one.

hi,jump starter is ok but for gods sake DO NOT use a starter/charger as i did, this puts too much power into the system and burns out the BECM module which will then cost you many hundreds of pounds, look in your owners manual for jump starting,i did not and ended up in the mire, the cheap battery power packs have not got enough in them for what you need.:)

Hi All

My advice would be get the battery checked as well, slightly iffy batteries tend to cause havoc and for the sake of a few pounds spent now, you could save yourself a lot of grief in the future.

I've heard that boosting can cause problems with the BeCM, apparently you're supposed to charge them off the car -has anyone experienved this?

hi,do not use a starter/charger to try and start your r/rover as it will burn out your BECM,this happened to me just recently, cost me £380 to have it sorted:eek:,what you must do is charge the battery off the vehicle,or charge it on the car but remove both the +& - leads,if you want to use a booster pack on a diesel connect it direct to the battery,if its a petrol connect the - lead to metal component elsewhere on the car,:D

I think that's generally the case for most modern vehicles full of electronics - the sparking that occurs invariably when attaching booster cables can always cause damage to electronics. Before buying the new RF Receiver I used to keep a second battery on charge, ready to exchange with the flat one and always tried to remember to unlock the doors with the fob before the battery lost all its power, so bypassing the need for the dreaded Keycode Entry......

I found very strange faults showing when batteries were operating at less than their best - all of them cleared after fitting the battery and leaving for 20-40 minutes after connecting up. Hopefully, all this is at an end with the new RF receiver..........
