Question.??

I have an ABS Light on the dashboard when i turn on the ignition and start the engine, it stays on even when i am reversing, but when i select 1st gear and pull away it goes off.!!

Is this normal.??

Can anyone advise.??

With most vehicles the abs light may stay on until you reach a certain speed, i work on trucks and on some of these its usally about 12kmh. As it is going off i would say that there are no faults with it!

Thanks for the advise mate. its always done it since i owned the vehicle just over a week ago you see.. only on test drive i never really noticed it as i was speaking to the previous owner at the time so wouldnt look at it really.

Just phoned him, according to the hand book it should only stay on for a few seconds and then go off wether you have started driving or not, so it may be worth a diagnostic check at your local landrover specialist.

Yes,the light stays on until you reach 5mph then should extinguish,if it does not stay on as described above there is an abs fault.I know it looks like a problem to see one light on on its own until you move but thats the way it is,so dont worry.

Hi there
i took my 2000 freelander to Landrover with same issue. As it dident sound wright to me that light should stay on to say it was working correctly.(thought they were fobbing me off) But i was proven wrong as they showed me ther tech manual an it said it all in there. stays on until 5mph

Yes, that's definately right, it's in the manual for our L-series but I have a feeling that after 01MY it extinguishes like Graham's dad's does.

I'll have a look in our 02 TD4's manual if I remember.

Good night.
