After running round town towing the trailer I popped the bonnet to have a look at the engine and can hear some slight pressure being released from the expansion tank cap. Also a few crystal deposits round the hose connections. The temp gauge has been showing normal at 9 o,clock position. Water level in tank seems normal . What do ya think ?

Time for a.new expantion tank. The original ones get very brittle over time and do leak air and coolant out of hair line cracks and the cap. Some go on forever like this and other just fail. I've got the level about half way.on expansion tank and haven't had problems yet.

Thanks, the tank and cap were replaced a couple of years ago after old one split when overheating. Will try a new cap .

Bear in mind Danny that the system is designed to pressurise and the cap is designed to let the surplus pressure out. So imo the system is working correctly so long as it is not losing coolant.

Thanks Biglad, I was worried too much pressure was building up and there might be a problem. If you say its normal I will leave it. :)
