Is this master spline normal/common?

Hi all

Il try to keep it simple. I was trying to sort my front prop phasing out yesterday on my '98MY 300 D1 and when I pulled it apart I saw these two (pics should appear) but no obvious difference to any of the splines but the prop would not go back together any other way apart from factory setup with the little square and the missing spline lined up.
I hear of many people on here managing to sort their phasing out so do I need a prop from another vehicle or is there anything I can do with mine?

Thanks in advance

Towsey

***EDIT*** PICS DONT SEEM TO BE WORKING, IVE TRIED ON PHONE AND IPAD...THERES A LITTLE SQUARE ON THE YOKE AND A MISSING SPLINE IN THE PROP, THANKS AGAIN

Hi thanks for replies

Yes I was using the bottom one, I usually have no probs tho so???...il have another go

Yes it puts it in the normal position, I forgot to say it’s on a 2” lift, sorry. When I lifted it I didn’t put the arms on at the same time but I only felt a slight vibration at about 20mph, and steering didn’t seem too bad, but it all got worse over time. So yesterday I put the arms on which look and feel to have sorted the castor out but the vibration has got worse, so i took front prop off to check it’s that and yes it’s the prop, but as said before I can’t change the phasing

Thanks

Didnt think a 2" lift would make any real difference. Arms??
You've run without the front prop ok? You sure you dont have a failing UJ?

Yeah the lift has caused the vibration cos of the phasing but I did think the arms would cure that but they made it worse, yes the joints are fine but thanks for the idea.

I hoped someone that has changed their phasing would be able to tell me wot prop they used or wot vehicle they have, I’m sure V8 ones are narrower and different design so wonder if they can be change?

most props i come across dont have a master spline, the phasing is to counter the flanges on diff and t/box not been parallel

Thanks James
Mines a late 300 and just has 1 spline missing on the tube side (so double width groove) and then a little square marker cast into the outside of the yoke to line up with it, the yoke side spline is normal and doesn’t have a double width master to go in or anything like that. It’s that close it feels like I could tap it together how I want but it would be too tight to slide obviously

Cheers

it should fit in other positions in that case, but can be tight if the plastic spline coating is aged

Rite ok thanks, it does sort of start but goes tight after about 5mm, everything looks in good nick tho if the naked eyes owt to go by. Do you think it would free off if put in a vice and worked, it seems very tight to me

Thanks

Towsey
