ok, as you know something is fooked on me landy, i'm thinking gearbox but not sure, engine leaks oil from arse end and is a recon ex mil engine with 86000 miles on the clock.
my options are: to get it looked at by local landy man to confirm gearbox is fooked and to get a replacement gearbox from a very nice man.
the other option which my hubs has come up with is this , there is a possibilty of a diesel engine and gearbox from a daihatsu fourtrak (2.5l i think ) from our farmer friend.
is it possible to put that setup into a petrol series 3 with minimal alterations or is it a real bitch of a job thats not worth the hassle. if it is a possibility what kind of alterations are we looking at,
or is there another option i haven't thought of:confused: i have considered a blowtorch accidentally falling into the petrol tank but hubs says not yet;)

ok, from what i'm reading thats still using a landy gearbox, is it possible to use the daihatsu gearbox or is there no conversion possible on that:confused:
sorry i know i'm a numpty lol:eek:

not entirely sure where the oil is coming from but rear 2 sparks are covered and so is rear 2 manifold outlets, hubs thinks head gasket but after him telling me that there was oil in the gearbox and there wasn't i don't take his word for it:mad:

Sounds like a rocker gasket to me. but I'd have to see it to be sure. HG would be spraying it all over the engine bay and your oil warning light/pressure gauge would be going nuts. worn rings would push it out the breather pipes.

Replacement gearboxes are cheap enough on fleabay. or you can strip em and rebuild em yaself. all the parts are fairly cheap.

awww bless ya, you're assuming i have more than basic mechanical knowledge:rolleyes: i can top up me oils and radiator and change an alternator but anything more than that i wouldn't attempt without a proper mechanic standing close by giving me instructions in plain idiot proof english;)
