The vast majority of regulations these days are to artificially boost the economy - the more money forcibly released back into the economy (rather than sitting in your account) the more the thieves in Westminster and the treasury can get their hands on (they get a cut of most transactions) and the more work there is for the populous of this forcibly over-populated island - it's capitalized socialism. Example: Tax large cars to the point where it takes a huge chuck of your income to run one (citing Eco-nonsense as justification) and then introduce child seat laws to force small families into big cars!

We are no longer citizens - we are tax slaves.

I agree, we pay VAT on anything that the government dictates.
It is arbitrary and global and affects most purchases.
It is a way of "Taxing economic activity" -Sell something and you must give me a cut!

The rate is percentage based and therefore lucrative.
It is for (usually) paying for inefficient government and plugging £14,000,000 holes in the parliamentary expenditure that the audit office cannot sign off!

You gets what you votes for- which is more of the same!

Do you have an alarm that sounds off when someone is talking politics? :p

Right, I got 2 quotes for fitting the 4 ball joints I have purchased ready to go...........
£475+VAT for 6 hours labour.

£200+VAT + potential breakage of ABS sensor that may have seized into place (the O/S sensor is only about 2 years old so I hope it will not be seized).

Oh Joy! The second quote it is then!

Coming from Surrey you can add £50+ on for fuel, but they are based in the Salisbury area. I just turned up after being tipped off and the guy there knew what he was talking about, very confident, I am booking in during the next 2 weeks which gives me a chance to finish off the other MOT items.

R Hunt 4x4 for leading vehicle servicing and repair.

Cheers

Thanks let me know how you get on. I will be giving them a call

If the ball joint itself is "serviceable" without excessive play then why not just simply fit a new dust cover ?

I would suggest any good motor factor will have hundreds in stock as a common MOT fail item since the new regs came in

As an example here are some from Sealey

RJC01 Sealey Ball Joint Dust Covers - Car

I have fitted universal gaiters before, so do these work in the same way?

If so, how on earth do you stop them splitting open within seconds on a heavy vehicle? It looks to me like these slide but you need to lift the ball joint out a little first. Which on a P38 means you may as well replace the joint (which is cheaper than the Sealey dust covers) and just be content in the knowledge they are done and take the labour change on the chin?

Maybe they do not work like that....
Cheers
