just trying to identify what the series/code this 2.5 n/a diesel engine in my 1983 Series III is. I've looked for the serial number on the side near injectors but can't see it.

Any help gratefully received, thanks!

Thats exactly the same set up I've got in my 88. Its either 12J or 19J they both look the same when the 19J has the turbo removed like mine.
You can put the fan back on and reinstate the series front end, it will fit ok.

Thanks @Rodeo Joe, really handy to know. The non standard front end doesn't bother me aesthetically, but considering reinstating to normal as the bonnet on current front end doesn't fit great!

Thanks for the advice :)

Is that not a number on the flat between 3rd and 4th glow plugs to the right of the little bracket with clip on top , my 15J was stamped in that area.

Hi all, just trying to get a service pack (filters etc) from paddocks and it raised an interesting Q. They were questioning whether in fact it is a 2.5d and said a VRM check shows the engine as a 12v.

I just checked V5C and it says 12v too on the engine serial number. Anyone able to help me understand this please?

Thanks

its a 12j with a sherpa manifolds and air filter, obviously its been recorded poorly

@jamesmartin thank you, thats really helpful. Shame its recorded wrong.

Also useful info on the sherpa manifolds, I didn't know about them so will do some research into them.

Cheers

Quick Q. I cannot see that I have an expansion tank for coolant. The hoses run directly to and from engine to the rad. Does the 12j normally have an expansion tank?

If not, how do I check coolant level?

TIA
Chris

its in a series with a series rad presumably so you dont need a separate tank
undo rad cap

What year is your landrover expansion bottle was fitted to later series 3 radiator pic of top of your radiator with cap off will help. Keep cap in pic also upside down.
Show where the overflow outlet is positioned I think that changes on radiator.
