is there coolant running thru the inlet manifold??

I read a lot of stories about changing the inlet manifold gasket?

Is this easy to do yourself?

I have checked nad it looks that there is a white one in mine???

So I need to change it by the green one?

But is there coolant going thru the manifold? As I read that you could loose coolant thru the manifold? Never heard about a cooled manifold???

I presume you're referring to the 1.8k?

The manifold is fairly easy to do yourself, but fiddly in places so you'll need an extension socket.

Coolant doesn't actually run through the manifold, the manifold blocks a coolant port on the right hand side of the engine (unless you've got a VVC), and lets coolant through to a pipe and eventually the expansion tank on the left side of the engine. No coolant passes through the actual manifold so to speak.

So how can you have coolant loss than by this gasket leaking? And what is a vVc?

No worries,

If the gasket has an internal leak (i.e. on the inner walls of the gasket) then coolant can get sucked into the cylinders through the air ports.

If the gasket has an external leak (i.e. on the outer wall of the gasket) coolant will run down your engine or burn off if it's hot enough.

Look at the photo i've attached. The left circle shows where the coolant recirculates and goes back to the expansion tank if needs be. The right hand circle shows where coolant is blocked (no hole through here).

On the other photo showing the back of the engine, the top left circle shows where the coolant channel is that gets blocked, and bottom middle circle is where the other coolant channel is (can't see it for the dipstick), top right circle shows the pipe that fits onto this once the manifold has been put back on.

I say the coolant doesn't pass through the manifold, but it does pass through the plastic where it bolts to the head.

VVC is variable valve control, but you don't need to worry about this as freelanders aren't equipped with these variations of the K series.

coolant does get mixed with oil if gasket fails

Shouldn't do if the inlet gasket fails, worst case is coolant gets into the cylinders, burns off and then causes the head gasket to go due to overheating.

Or water could just be lost to the outside of the engine, cause the engine to overheat and the head gasket to go.

The head gasket is what mixes the oil and coolant if it goes.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong by the way.
