1. Yes if your headunit has the jack input then there's an interface lead to connect the dash controls and the headunit, but why would you want too they cant be seen very well and don't do what they are suposed to do.
2. Your headunit will need a pre-amplifed output then there's is a patch lead available or make your own and connect to the audio socket and you also need connect the two existing 12v supplies via the iso sockets.

Yes something like the link but not that item use 'PC99-X14 Land Rover Discovery Stalk Adaptor Lead Stereo' available from the same supplier
8 years later, same problem. Does the Philips sub woofer plug do anything useful, or can I just snip off the 2 wires, connect a couple of solderless RCA connectors and shove it into the back of the radio? (instead of the ingenious bodge shown.)

Only when it's used but there's no reason 'not to' cut the socket off and wire directly to the head unit and it makes things easer.
As a electrical engineer my training taught me to not remove plugs/sockets or cut redundant wiring, u never know when u may require them again, so now automatically I never do and "bodged" up a patch lead with the bits and bobs I had at the time, 7+ years on and still ok.
