Is My MPG Ok?

I get just under 500 miles to a tank before the light comes on. my MPG is about 38-40 its a TD4 Manual

I get 780 km, 487miles from a tank

I struggle to get 400 miles from a full tank in the winter - was much better in summer... td4 auto complete with ronbox - suspect maf maybe on way out, but having reconnected original wiring loom to maf runs sweet - plenty of go & no smoke - just crap mpg

FFS i think you may have a problem...i got more than that towing a box trailer on me L series...ok i admit its a manual, and i couldnt go fast but i think my average was almost 30 mpg on the trip...maybe you should find a diesel specialist and get it tuned...when i used to run petrol cars, part of my own annual service was to get a Crypton tune maybe it needs a similar boost, especially if youve had a gadget to alter the fueling put on..

It just seems strange that my old DI manual got 33 to the gallon but this td4 that everyone says should be great does only 25-27.

Even with the auto box I would expect around 30

when I get chance (maybe this weekend) i'll pull off the MAFAM and see what it goes like and fuels like

For more years than I care to remember I have recorded fuel consumption and always fill to brim and record and reset trip. At todays fill up my TD4 auto gave 35.2mpg, this on a mixture - mway and into London. Previous fill was 33mpg. John.
