Hi All
I have just replaced the head, all water items, rad etc, and intercooler on my

I also adjusted the injector tappets.

The car started after a few cranks, run for a minute and stalled. I now leave the pump running for about a minute, then crank it for a few minutes, it will just start with the throttle pedal on the floor. It will run for a minute and run out of fuel.

All the time, the fuel pump sounds like a kid doing a biggles airpalne noise, and never returns to a hum. It is always gurgling and very noisy.

I have checked all fuel lines into the head, and all seem fine.

Any help? Thanks

Either a fuel pump or is it picking up air from one of the return lines?

The TD5 has a fairly complex route for its fuel, lots of places to get air in on the return loop.

I took my pump out of the tank when the float came off. I refitted it and it took about 8 attempts to purge it before all the air came out.

Switch ignition on for about 2 minutes and let pump run. Switch off, do not attempt to start. leave for a short while then keep repeating till pump runs quiet and air is purged, then try to start.

It worked for me but did take several attempts. Pump still fine several months later :)

Thanks for the replies. I have done the leave the pump running for 5 minutes purge about 7 times. I did try the position 2 with the key and pump the accelerator pedal 5 times, but it didnt bring up the engine light!
I will try the leaving pump to run and not starting it tomorrow.

yeah it's on the head that the filter screws into, on the rear outer pipe connection. See the diagram above, it's at the filter block end of the line marked 9
