Hi, ive got a 4.6 v8 range rover, and after a bit more power, ive decatted it, and got an rpi stainless exhaust so far.
Would an induction kit/ performance air filter improve performance or make it breathe a bit easier, or will it make it run more lean and risk cracking head/block more? Forgot to mention its on lpg, and spends most its life on lpg, just run it on petrol when putting the foot down! Sam

Panel filter........Unless you have a awsome supply of cold air from a feed then the cone will just suck in hot engine air and you will loose power.

Thanks lads, who sells a panel filter for the p38? Would a cone filter be better than a panel if i added a cold air feed and a heat shield? Also what about the enclosed filters that are in a cylindrical tube or itg maxogen? Thanks, Sam

No not a lot. Much over rated and very much over priced usually.

Try a foam type panel filter not a K & N type oiled cotton.

Why a foam filter rather than an oiled cotton type?

I have just ordered a K&N replacement filter (cylindrical filter, not an induction kit, for the 3.9 V8 in the RRC, rather than a square panel filter) so would be interested to know!

Yeah its a 95, gems model, i would chip it but dont fancy paying £700 for the tornado chip, as i only want a bit of extra power for not too much money, as i have a 350bhp celica gt4 as my weekend fun car.
Does anybody else offer chipping options, eg. superchips? Also ive been looking at a bigger throttle body and trumpets, would this be worth doing along with a cam and a pair of 4 branch manifolds? Thanks, Sam

Bloody hell Sam give it a rest you have already got an exhaust that's worth more than the car.:D:D:D

Hmm...ever heard of an oxymoron? That whole post is one!! :D

Yeah but chip on its own is more than throttle body, manifolds and trumpets, and ive heard rover v8 cams get worn out easily, so thinking of rebuilding top end. Does anybody else do chips? Sam

Sam, either you have money to burn or you are dreamer. Why would anyone shell out £2,000 in mods on a £1,500 motor?

Because cars are my hobby, some people spend money on other things and sports etc. I spend it on cars. Many people spend a lot higher amount of maney than there cars value, look at the amount of magazines on sale with modified cars, were all the mods carried out less than the cars value?

sam i'm with you on this one. love my car and happy to spend on it without always checking on resale value. got really chuffed when local landy dealer's mechanic told me mine's the best P38 in town as far as he knows. that's not saying it doesn't have problems, lord there's literally a new one each week but its all part of the game. i'm not one for mods though. just like to keep it running the best it can.

should say he probably meant mechanically. i've plenty of scratches on the paint from driving through the bush and lots of rattles from all the crappy plastic in the doors and dash.

OK, you do what you want. But the thread reads "Is it worth putting induction kit on 4.6 v8" The answer to that has to be no. So if your going to do it anyway regardless of any sound advice, why ask the question in the first place? By the way running without cats on a 95 vehicle is illegal.
