so is tata the end of the line fer landys ? will we be saying ta ta to the brand ? i hope not wot yall think
 
They've bought the company, not mine or yours or anybody's. It won't make a blind bit of difference to anyone who already owns or might in the future own a Land Rover. I'd be a bit concerned if I worked there(brother in law does) or if I worked at a supplier due to the fact that labour is for nothing in India.
 
Tata have given the unions various promises about the work force's future, so I suspect they feel happier than than with Ford, who had made no such promises.
Looking at the other companies Tata has bought, Corus, Tetley Tea etc I think the future looks good.
 
You can expect defender production to go to India , JMHO , otherwise as said better than the ford ownership . Look what they put as engine and gearbox into defender :eek:
 
Land Rover wanted to drop the Defender from it's range due to the amount of manual labour needed to build them. Labours dirt cheap in India.
Tata want a decent 4x4 drive train and system to sell to the various armed forces in the world (especially India) and the Defender is already done and dusted.
So the Defender gets built in India for the foreseeable future. Better than no more Defenders, and the build quality of the 80's has seen the Defender still driving.
Land Rover now have a master with lots of money and resources at it's disposal..... better than Ford (Fix Or Repair Daily)

In the world of business, espescially big business, if it ain't signed and sealed in the presence of at least one major deity it means **** all. Promises mean diddly.
 
I got an 'ard top with no windows and a split tail gate(only the top half) and I got an 'ard top with a safari type double skinned roof but no door.
 
Well I haven't read much of the thread (sorry, i'll get there eventually)........But India owning LR............I can't say anything on here that I would not get in trouble for!!!!!:mad:

Evening Daft, LR going to India, T5 total failure (no supprise there)..........Can't wait to see what a Fu they make of the Olympics...........I dispare at this country. Thank **** they just call it Britain now........well there's nothing GREAT about it is there?????????:(
