Please could anybody let me know if it is possible to remove the exhaust down pipe and middle box section without first removing the chassis cross members. I have bought a stainless de-cat pipe and a middle section through pipe so i decided i would fit them today, surprisingly i managed to loosen all the exhaust bolts quite easily but having problems with the bolts holding the cross members. I have tried with a socket and a ring spanner with a hammer but no joy and now the ring spanner is starting to slip...many thanks.....AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

correct wd40 i'm anticipating it going up with inflation. Truth is sore hand i hit it with the hammer

YES IT IS POSSIBLE, I changed from a cat to a straight thru pipe recently, and was told I had to drop the crossmember, DON'T just undo the 3 flange bolts and with a bit of perseverance wriggling and twisting the cat pipe L&Right it came out through the front without dropping the crossmember, because my bolts were also rusted solid. The new straight thru pipe went straight in. Mine is a 1997 300tdi. Mick.

Yes it's possible in 200 & 300 tdi but not in Td5 mate.

Yes, it is possible. I had to drop anti roll bar and remove track rod and steering damper. Then if possible remove the rear exhaust hanger, if not just remove the rear exhaust section from the mount, you will just about have enough room now. Best done with 2 people and some gentle persuasion!!

good Luck
