Is G after a Britpart part number always genuine?

Just received a get well kit for the Disco:

New expansion tank & cap, Airtek water pump, P-Gasket and 3 new long bolts.

P-Gasket was ordered as OEM and is a Britpart PET100790G - G supposedly being for genuine.

I've been Googling around and another forum had a thread going about ****part being the OEM supplier on some stuff and ****part trucks being seen in LR dealerships.

This is my second new P-Gasket, the first was a new style metal one but I just bought it off eBay so no idea who made it. Don't want an unnecessary repeat again.

Would you guys trust this one as OEM or go to LR for "proper" genuine?

ps The same website actually lists a Britpart P-Gasket too and it's £1.99 compared to £1.49 for OEM!!!

The Land Rover parts numbering system is pretty good so all suppliers tend to use it. Part numbers tend to follow a standard format, either all numerical of varying length; or alphanumeric LLLnnn or LLLnnnn. As far as I can see the only part numbers which have a letter suffix are nuts and bolts.

I know that Paddock Spares put a G suffix to indicate genuine (take your chances on the other).

Best advice is to ask the people who you're buying the part off whether its genuine or not. OEM isn't necessarily the same, it just means (in theory) the part is manufactured to the quality required by the manufacturer. Britpart isn't a parts manufacturer, they're a middle man, they source their parts from the actual guys who manufacture them but don't get their name/branding on the thing. They might also commission runs of parts with their branding on it. Sometimes the same manufacturing run will be labelled differently for different retailers etc. Also sometimes Land Rover dealers will source parts from the cheapest supplier at the time - which might be Britpart.

Put some instant gasket on both sides of gasket fasten it up and bobs your uncle. I made a p gasket out of a cereal box (shreddies cos I don't like corn flakes) instant gasket on both sides sorted, that was about 4 years ago I sold it 2 years ago and its still on shreddies for brecki....Tony

Thanks Tony,

I've got some Blue Hylomar so I'll use the ****part P-Gasket with a smearing of that on both sides.
