Is a faulty L322 TDV8 worth buying to flip.

No reason to hate our 4.4 TDV8...............................................................Yet:).

must confess have read some very good reviews regarding the TDV8;, apologises asking a daft question but is the later called a SDV8 or are they both the same having the twin turbos , assume there both made by jag

many thks

edit , sorry I was thinking of the petrol 4.4 , the TDV8 was a Ford wasn’t it based on the same TDV6 in my D3, think I read the Ford 4.4 was built in Mexico

In my experience, the Freelander 1 TD4 and Freelander 2 TD4 are pretty good, although neither is actually built by LR.

known when I sold my TD4 it had over 190,000 miles on it, think it was retaxed for another 3 x years before it was taken off the road

id imagine the jatco gearbox went as it was starting to show signs of wear with errors

will be interesting to see how the newer engines stand up, ie new defender etc

As far as I am aware the TDV8 4.4 is basically the same as the SDV8 but think the SDV8 has a bit more power due to a different mapping which I also think gives it better MPG.
From what I can tell the drivetrain in the 2011 L322 was put in as a "see how it goes" run before using it in the L405.

many thks , must confess wouldn’t ever buy another landy with the TDV6 or SDV6 due to the crank issues , discovery sport , evoque , RRS also have engine issues, heard even the discovery 5 snaps cranks

next one I’ll more than likely go for the SDV8 4.4 , personally think the 5.0 petrol SC will be to much for me to take on , plus it has the highest insurance group @50

know the TDV8 4.4 has timing chain/ tensioner issues but belive once they’ve been fitted with the upgraded kit there ok, oh and both EGR’s which isn’t surprising seeing every other EGR I’ve owned has caused issues , alas don’t know if u can blank and map out the 4.4 egrs

seeing mine is now going on towards being 17 x years old I’ll give it time before I finally decide , won’t rush into it , at the end of the day if the RRS hadnt been fitted with the dynamic anti roll bar system I might have gone for that , prefer the FFRR where it has the stability control on the air bags

plus have a private plate on my D3 so at least the new landy won’t show what age it is , lol, dream motor would be a new defender but can’t see them coming into price range for at least 10 x years to which then I hope all recalls etc have been resolved

ps, this will be a dream motor, lol, think everyone once in there life have to own a FFRR
