Is a faulty L322 TDV8 worth buying to flip.

The seller also suggested the turbo, which is good to know.
So for the price he's wanting, and selling it for £4k, there would be some money in it once I've replaced the turbo, and given it a service.
Makes me wonder why he's not fixing it himself, as he seems to have a well equipped workshop.

Because he knows whats really wrong with it!

Quite wise, you know it makes sense especially if it's the 3.6ltr.

plus 1 , must confess when I’ve bought a motor I’ve never trusted a private or dealer seller , even better now being able to plug in a scanner and watching there faces, even more telling when the screen comes back totally blank

My knowledge of the L322 is lacking, especially the TDV8 variant.

yikes , I’ve got the TDV6 engine so that’s no better in its reputation , however I imagine a TDV8 would be even more expensive , or are the later ones called SDV8 seeing they have the twin turbos

another motor I really like is the petrol D4, but alas that has the 5.0 litre supercharged

if I did manage to get a L405 would at least a warranty , don’t know if the 8 x speed L322 is better or worse than the L405 , or what the best engines are out of the JLR

All engines are crap, its just jlr have perfected the art of crap engines to a T!

In my experience, the Freelander 1 TD4 and Freelander 2 TD4 are pretty good, although neither is actually built by LR.

to be honest it has been good so far I keep a good check on the oil and water not long since I changed the header tank as had the coolant low warning on the dash so new bottle was fitted

if the gauge moves off normal its too late, only has 3 stopping points cold, normal or new engine

Nice, just keep an eye out for the coolant hose that runs in the V below the supercharger leaking. A right barsteward on the XJR but a bit easier on the RR I believe. Done it twice on the XJ but never on a RR.
