Hi, i have a freelander 2.0ltr diesel v reg 2000 , over the last few days i have noticed a whine/droning noise whilst driving .Noise alters if you go on and off the throttle.
I have checked under the vehicle today and found about 10-13mm play in the output shaft when rotated from left to right . I have now removed the pinion housing , the pinion shaft looks ok , however i can move the crown wheel on the shaft . Should the crown wheel move on the shaft , by what i can see on the parts diagram the crown goes onto a splined shaft . Has anyone had this problem, is it time to replace the ird ?
The vcu has been replaced about 8 months ago.

just get pinion bearings if no other damage has been done got my replacements through bell engineering only came to £50-£60 i think took about 2 hours to do the job all is well now

In order to get to the c/w bearing the heat exchanger has to be removed this trashes it and it costs £70 to replace:(
