Hi All.

Posted last week looking for help/info after a wee smash with TD4 Freelander. Damage done to N/S/F wheel after clattering a stone in the snow. Wishbone crumpled. Drove really badly. Needing help again I'm afraid. :(

Since then I have replaced the wishbone, ARB link and over the weekend removed and fitted a new front bearing and driveshaft as well as pad and disc. The old ones didnt seem to have much wrong with them, but removed and replaced anyway under process of elimination.

Still drives awful. Bad intermittent whine from what seems front N/S, getting much louder up to 60mph, and the intermittent whine nearly becomes constant. Gets worse when turning right, dulls when turning left. When decelerating, whine slackens. When braking, and especially when nearing a stop, there is a clunking noise.

Is this the IRD unit? What other symptoms are there of IRD failure? I appreciate this is going to be costly, but need to definitly identify it as the IRD.

Thanks.

Bob

very hard to pin a fault noise like this on a four wheel set up, might save a lot of time if you get a good independant to try un pin it [sure youll have ta pay] better than fitting parts that are good anyhows. . . .

Only replaced the N/S disc and pad to see how it drove at the moment. Yeah, I know they should be replaced in pairs.

Just trying to determine problem at the moment.

Cheers

Bob

No doubt you've done internal damage to the driveline. Drain the Gbox oil and the ird see if you have any excessive metal in either first. My guess is you probably damaged the gbox not the IRD.
