iPad and RAVE

I know that some of our American cousins had individual pages loaded onto an iPhone 3g. No ability to puruse the menus PC style, but still very useful. Have been looking into the file structure of RAVE to see if the PDF files can be extracted seperately, so far wth no success. Need more time to look at this and that is in short supply at the moment.
Will keep posting on any progress though.

I have had Rave "running" on my iPad for sometime now. Basically just copy the Rave PDF files you are interested in to iBooks or any other app that can handle PDF's (plenty of them around but iBooks is free). Its a no-brainer and works like a dream. There is really no reason today to try to adapt the Rave PC-based program to the iPad, the PDF is all you need.

Just tried to get the Workshop Manual onto my iPhone4 - is recognised as a file in iTunes (although the PC struggles to run smoothly whilst playing with iTunes and this file) but it won't copy to the iPhone - I've tried opening the PDF on the laptop without going through RAVE and it won't let me do that either - just chucks up an error about the file type requiring a non Adobe plug in - but the Adobe website doesn't know which one. Any ideas?

I have been using my Mac for that, forgot to mention. I think for the PC the rave file structure is different, and the pdf's are a bit protected. Why not try to download the mac version, find the file you need (they are simple pdf's there) and sync through iTunes. Try under the app tab for your iPhone, and sync directly with iBooks (scroll down a bit to see the app list that can take external files).

Got it working with both Goodreader app and in ibook. you need the latest version of RAVE though as earlier versions (adobe 4.0) have compatibilty issues. A good check is to try opening one of the PDF's using adobe reader 9 on your PC / laptop. if it opens there without issue, then will open on the ipad.
My only remaining problem is the latest version I have is for the North American market (NAS) so not quite right for UK spec vehicles. using Good reader or PDF reader pro it is easy to copy over the individual PDF files of interest, either via USB or wirelessly. Going to try on iphone 4.0 next and see if works there as well. Don't think the 3G phone has enough ram to cope so not going to try it.

Ok, next question, where am I likely to find a newer version of RAVE than the old Reader 4.0 version?

I can see that this is an old thread, but it was the first one I came to on RAVE CD on the iPad

Anyhow, if you upload your RAVE files to an app called Dropbox (you'll have to register, but it's free, and I'm sure there are other apps) your iPhone or iPad can easily access all the data files (I think it converts the files in a similar way to Google Drive - which I haven't tried uploading to as yet).

You will need wifi (or a decent 3G data package with your phone provier) to see them on your devices though. I'm now downloading the pdfs to my iPad - I don't yet know if they'll work offline but will update when I do.

I'm lucky in that I need an iPad for work and it's currently running iOS 6 (so is my iPhone4). I don't know if this fix works with older iOS's
I did have to update the app on my iPhone to see the files

It's a pain as the source docs are oddly labelled, but once you know what's what it really is useful.. I may even rename the files at a later date to make life easier and will post a link if it works

downloaded the PDF version of rave that a helpfull member had posted on the forum

synced PDF's to my ipad and iphone through itunes

and now have a fully working manual on my IPAD !!!

as good as rave, ie.. can click through the different sub-menus etc..

perfect !

I have the rave manuals and from my computer, using thr rave program I have "printed" the manuals using "microsoft XPS document writer". This produces an .xps file (which I saved in my Dropbox). This can be read by many ebook apps (I use Orion). I can now read these on my tablet and even on my phone.

Did the same with my Samsung S3. Got RAVE on the mobile now. No need for these ipad things :):D:p

I own a bloody range rover, what you expect? :D:D:D

And the Samsung is more suited to my needs. Still plays the same music, android based, and has flash player. Something i****s don't have. :D:D:D

Tell me about it !! Lol

Yes the apple stuff would be much better of it wasn't so restricted
But a quick jailbreak fixed that

The range of stuff available for the apple devices is huge
