Introduction

I have just joined the forum and, as a newbie, I will be looking to pick as many brains as possible. I have a 1981 Series 3 and am not very mechanically inclined but hope to become better in order that I can tinker with my Landy.
Based in Scotland, so have to endure the cold and wet ---- something that I fear my Series 3 is not keen on!!

Series is a fine vehicle to cut your mechanical teeth on - it's all nuts and bolts, and not a ***** 'puter in sight

Here are some pics of my Series 3.
Not going anywhere at the moment as I had a new starter motor fitted and it is not engaging.
I have seen that there are a lot of comments that this problem is not uncommon with Series starter motors as there appear to be a high proportion of faulty new ones.
I have checked all the connections and earth. The motor appears to be spinning but not engaging.
It started well after intial fitting and for the subsequent 3 starts, next 2 starts required the old rocking in gear technique, the 2 after that required a tip tap with hammer and now neither rocking nor tapping is curing fault ---- therefore it's back tomorrow to the local garage that fitted it.
If anybody out there has any suggestions/tips as to a cure please feel free to comment

It came with the lid on the back and extra cab hardware so I presume it had previously been used in pick up mode. The rear lid had no rear 'cat flap' window and it was a b****r to find one --- they are like hen's teeth, so ran with polythene as back window for about 6 months. Eventually got 'cat flap' and opening supports, hence reason the back window is not surrounded by white paint.
