Hello everyone, I have been interested in buying a landy for a few years but family commitments have always prevented me. Have always had a soft spot for the 2a since a child but I'm looking at a newer model. I have been looking at the Disco 2. I'm tempted to part ex my car in and make the jump. I'm here to learn what I can but sadly the itch to buy one is becoming insane. I find myself going round the Internet to look up what the mot failures are and advisory notes and then thinking, oh boy can I really do this. It is something I want to own and for many years I've had to put it off. Ive worked on many cars myself and done repairs, engine work and things but welding is not my skill sadly. I'm beginning to think that my head is in the clouds if I do go ahead and buy one as many I have seen for sale look like polished poo (excuse me if I'm blunt but its my honnest oppinion) I only have one friend who lives couple hundred miles away that can come with me on viewings (he's had landys for years) so really I will be on my own I think hence why I'm finally here on the forum and learning what I can and hopefully save myself heart ache and bankruptcy in the process. Thanks for reading a little about why I'm here and I hope I will achieve my dream.

Welcome :).

Are you saying it will be your daily driver?
The P38 doesn't tend to rust out from under you, but comes with its own issues;).
A sorted Series/Defender on a galvy chassis would be a good place to be, as they are probably easier to work on.

Have a good look around the different sections and you will see the issues available:oops:.

Have a look, some come up for sale on ere, there is 1 at the moment which is a cracker.
Dont rush in and if you let us know your rough location, you will probably find members near you who may help with viewing.

Hello marjon 😇 thanks for the reply and welcome. I live near Heathrow Airport and my friend is in Devon! I still have a good way to go on learning as I guess im lower than a novice right now. Thank you for letting me know about the one for sale on here, I will have a look. I take my time in looking at history etc of the model and look up its mot details. I tend to find corrosion and I'm not surprised when taking into account the age. I found one recently that is a 2001 and it has this report as its last mot. I've not gone to see it as yet but when I read that its involving something like the crossmember I begin to worry, that and it only has 6 months mot left for me to deal with anything horrific. I'm currently taking care of my father. I'm trying to find a local meet up where I can badger more but some days are good and some days are bad with regards to the caring side with Dad. Yes, It would be my daily drive so to speak (I don't drive every day unless I need to, it would become my only vehicle and it would be garaged. Last night I began wondering if this was a midlife crisis attack. Some go for a motorbike or a sports car or even a boat while me wants a LR. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post what I found on the existing mot but here goes and apologies if I shouldn't. I copied off the gov website. The oil leak is engine related. The advisories have been present for past 2 years at least.

Pass

Mileage: 112,244 miles

Expiry date: 4 Nov 2023
+ 5 miles travelled since last MOT.

Advisory notice item(s)

  • Front integral body structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced crossmember (6.1.1 (c) (i))
  • Offside front brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
  • Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
  • Vehicle structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))

Hello and welcome :)
take your time dont jump at the first one you see.
Hello brian38dse 😇 thanks for the welcome and the advice. I'm trying to keep a lid on it but temptation is a very bad thing. I don't want to keep putting it off yet at the same time feel that I could miss out on what I think is bad that turns out to be nothing major and vice versa.

Welcome to landyzone regular users of stone hammers to crack a wheel nut.

Google said otherwise but I stand corrected then.
You could be right, I think it is in Spelthorne, but might be wrong about that.
I don't go there very often, and when I do, I don't drive, because the parking is very expensive.
It certainly isn't in ULEZ at the moment, not sure about next year.

Welcome to Landyzone.
What about Ulez?
Hello Anaconda thanks for the welcome.
If it does come to the area I will just have to suck it up for a while. I'm planning to move out of the area asap anyway. Right now I still have to pay it in the car I already have. I'm guessing if you garage your vehicle and its not on the main road then you won't have to pay the daily charge unless you take it out🤔 Dont get me started on ulez etc as I be here all day 🤣
