Introducing myself

Hi just a quick post to introduce myself, My name is James and I own a half share of a Series 3 Land Rover with my nephew TJ. It is an '84 A reg SWB with a 200 TDI conversion, originally a 2.25 diesel, currently the colour is unknow lol. It has been painted in a colour that I suppose you could say is a sort of grey, although the V5c says green and there is evidence it could have started out blue lol (we haven't decided what colour to make it yet) . Had to rewire the loom to the back completely making my own new one, using the correct colours. Also to start it you had to stick a wire into the positive of the dash auxiliary plugs, flick a switch where the panel light switch was (panel lights go on with side lights now), then press a button. Not ideal, but a good antitheft device lol. Now it starts off the key the charge light goes on when the ignition is switched on (and out once running lol) which it didn't before, the glow plugs work and the warning light works which also didn't before (although always started great). Well think that will hopefully do for now, so hi everyone :)

Here is a few pics of the Landy in the first ones there is my nephew and dad, also you will notice the rather......odd front bumper lol. Posted as thumbnails but not sure would be better full size? And some of the engine, will put more up soon.

My first 90 had a screwdriver in it and the fuse box hanging out. Had to have the key in, or teaspoon or anything at hand you could jam in there. No good unless you knew where to short :)

Welcome to LandyZone
Lol I've heard some horror stories about fuses and fuse boxes, things like bolts and screws used instead of fuses . Thanks for the welcome. "Or a teaspoon or anything you could jam in there" suppose handy if you couldn't find your key lol.

Thanks saxavordian and brianp38dse, loonyzone? Sounds like I am in the right place then lol. A wee bit more about the Landy a previous owner had fitted more modern lights with outer rings, which I think are meant to be daytime running ones. They had them as the side lights, the original side lights only worked on one side. We decided we wanted it back to having the originals working and maybe keep the other ones too. We had worked out getting the wiring for the ignition switch would be a nightmare, so what would fixing the front lights add. We found the headlights actually had side light bulbs in them so what did we do? Yup we rigged the original sides, rings and the headlight bulbs all together. We had to replace, repair and update the wiring to the front lights so we just upgraded it to take the extra draw. I will post some pics showing how it looks, our thinking is you can't be seen enough at night so the more light the better. The first picture is the sidelights, all six (three each side), the second is a close up showing the ring and inner sidelight, third is dipped and fourth is main beam. Also some of it being worked on in general. We found out why there was only one original side light, there was no unit behind the lens!! So new light units all round was ordered and fitted.
