Hi

I was the previous owner of a 50th Anniversary V8 disco, which I got after divorce no 1 and sold it which I obviously regret.

Now after divorce no 2 I am looking to buy again.

Budget 10k
Want a diesel.

What should I get?

I saw some buying advice for D1 and D2.

But maybe something newer?

Any advice or signposting to other threads would be helpfull

Does yer need a big car or an even bigger car? Can yer afford ter pay someone ter fix it or will yer be doing it yerself? Wot sort of mileage and budget does yer have ter run it yearly? Can yer weld?

I would like a disco again for 7 seats.

I can do a basic service and pads etc everything else would have to be garage or friend.

Mileage would be low, 5 to 6k per year but on long trips. (I cycle to work use car only on days off, holidays etc

Welcome Aboard :)

IMHO:-

D1 only practical if you can weld ( body rot  ), or you get a japanese re-import - parts for the oil burners, specifically #4 injector are NLS, so you might have a problem .... V8 on gas is possible and quite practical. Also, D1's are not particularly well sealed - so really need to live undercover/inside....

D2 is about the same ref the welding, (chassis rot  ), unless it's been put of a new galv chassis. Current parts availability very good. You will need diagnostics - proper, not some half compatible POS. Ex Jap re-imports are also available for £6-7K, but tend to be V8's. Sunroof seals can be an issue - so also better if kept undercover.....;)

D3 and D4 are well within your price range, and possibly better if you can't weld .... BUT you must include proper fully compatible diagnostics in your purchase - or you'll be very popular with your local "garage". @gstuart is our local expert on the D3, and has produced an excellent buying guide .... hopefully he will see my tag ......;)

If you do have £10K, then I'd suggest ( in simple terms ), this is immediately down to £9.5K after diagnostics purchase, and then I'd suggest a slush fund of £2K for some safety - so you're looking at £7.5K for the vehicle itself.

As I said, OMO! :)

Thank you that's useful, I will look at D3 or D4 I think. I did take a look at a buyer's guide in here for a D3 so probably the same one.

Thank you

I'd look anywhere you can... My current D1 I found on eblag 4 years ago now when a certain ni$$an POS fell in half ....

SWMBO's D1 appeared on another forum ....we went to look and paid the man :D

Been very pleased with both of them :)

Ur make me blush, lol , suppose for my sins I had to learn the hard way by buying a project D3 but really do like it and was well worth the hard work to get it up to scratch

Totally agree with having a slush fund as it’s bound to need something , indeed diagnostics as u say a must

Thks again for the kind compliment but know @lynall @Nodge68 and many others also very experienced , always a team effort
