Hi, I m new to this forum and come with a problem:(! I have a beautifull 110, 300tdi but she has intermittent power sometimes she doesn t seem to rev its like no fuel is getting in, worse when she s cold, or under pressure,up hill can be a disaster struggling at 30 with foot flat down, then she ll suddenly jolt into action usually at brow of hill an then fly off at 70?! Its like the turbo kicks in as an when but I ve been advised more likely fuel than turbo. Fuel filter an lift pump changed, no obvious fuel leaks. I m not mechanically minded but would like to have some idea whats going on before she has to go to a garage, with thanks Bev:):)

internally delaminating turbo hoses possibly remove em and give it a quick blast to see if problem is still there

cheers steve

I suspect that would make it seem worse- what with no turbo boost getting to the combustion chamber 'cos you int got no pipes connected:doh:

run as an NA itll do way more than the quoted 30mph even with no boost but its a quick way to eliminate a hose issue if you dont have a spare set of hoses to borrow.....

cheers steve

also thinking back i had an issue years ago with a lump of instant gasket that had dropped in the tank when changing the pick up..... every now n again the pick up would block slightly, lose all power until it dislodged and was fine again..... could there be any detritus in the tank???

cheers steve

Don t think there shoukld be any thing in the tank, will experiment with hoses later lets face it she can really get much slower!!!! Thanks

I had this problem with mine and it turned out a bit of the lift pump had broken off and was occasionally preventing the diaphram from seating properly, so could be worth inspecting that if nothing else succeeds. check that the lift pump will prime up as mine wouldn't due to the bit breaking off. The moral of the story never buy a britpart liftpump.

Lol in my experience don t buy britpart anything unless you want to do the job twice, lift pump seemed obvious answer as doesn t seem to rev up never thought of searching for bits that may have broken off, thanks

fuel injection pump? injectors? can you hear the turbo spinning up?
Cant hear turbo spinning, guess could well be injection pump anyway of testing without replacing,(sorry if thats a thick question mechanic s not my strong point) sounds expensive?!

Have a read through this thread

if you look at the right hand side of the engine (standing at the front looking towards the windscreen) you'll see the turbo about half way back - thin black plastic tube runs around the back of the engine - t in here is easiest.

If you get stuck, I can post some pics, but away from home for a couple of days
