I have a 2001 TD5 110 that appears to have developed intermittent power losses and flat spots. Only really noticed when I have my trailer on, which is a triple axle 7m 3.5t box trailer. It started after towing up a long 18% hill the other week that had me down to 1st gear, after that on the flat it was not picking up and struggling to reach 45mph. The following day it was fine and since has been intermittent with losing power and having flat spots !
So far I have cleaned the MAP Sensor and blanked the EGR off but doesnt seam to of done much !
Im going to clean the MAF sensor tomorrow and check the injector loom.

Is there anything else that I should look at that could be causing me this problem ???

Cheers for any help.

I believe something has caused your engine to go into limp mode when you pulled the trailer. After re-starting the engine the limp mode situation is reset. It could be fuel or air insufficiency as suggested by Sierrafery ..

I have recently replaced 2 x oil filters, fuel filter, air filter, engine oil, transfer oil, gear oil and both axle oils so I know they are all ok.
Today I took the rocker cover off and looked at the injector loom, on removal of the plugs on top of the injectors the inside of the wire connectors are full of oil - I checked the red ECU connection and there was a tiny trace of oil there. I have the O rings and seals for the injectors ready to change, does anyone have a 'How To Guide' to remove the injectors ??

One other question - the MAF sensor was clean as a whistle, but one of the thin pieces on the sensor I snapped off !! What will happen if the MAF sensor is not in place or doesn't work ??

Cheers,
Ryan.

Ratty did a how to guide on the injector seals on here. Simple job just do them one at a time so not to mix them up. I used a heel bar which was much cheaper than the tool LR offer.

Found the 'How To' for the injectors - I shall have that to hand tomorrow.
So with MAF unplugged it will be ok to drive without causing damage to the engine - I shall try it unplugged and see how it performs.

Unplugging the maf confuses the ecu and then it just guesses the amount of fuel it thinks it needs.
If it cures it only get genuine part, they don't like after market.

Update - Changed the Injector O rings and Seals as well as the Injector Loom - ran a little better for a while (not used very often) then as going down dual carrageway I had a total loss of power and would not start again !!
Its now in the hands of a local very good but expensive Land Rover Specialist - It is coming up with a fuel pressure fault and Injector fault !! Tho they think there may be other problems as well - I wait for the dreaded bill !!

One injector looked a little discoloured when I took them out so I have a replacement on its way - they said it may be an injector that is stuck open pooring fuel into cylinder !
I just hope its not a stupid cost to fix !!

FPR doesn't generally go wrong they normally just leak.
Pump would be my guess if the pressure is low

if it was pouring fuel in, you would have loads of black smoke

It wasnt smoking when it happened but the garage say it is smoking alot now when they turn it over - they think they know what it is - They know there stuff fair play, people come from all over for them !!
Just annoying that its been in garage since Monday and they havent started it yet - sods law it breaks down when I need it most.

Update Again - One injector was knackered so replaced that but the head is cracked on the fuel side so that has to be replaced. Engine is currently in bits waiting for it to be rebuild now - lets hope this works as its been in garage for 2 weeks now !!

After 3 visits to the garage I think we are now back to normal ! Injector replaced, cylinder head replaced as cracked and pouring fuel into sump, MAF sensor faulty so replaced, new turbo fitted as warn out and today a new fuel pump !!
Needless to say a horrendous cost to get her running again but Im hoping that this is the end of the problems !!!
