Hi guys newbie here but need some help with an intermittent fault on my 2003 1.8 freelander.

The fault first appeared a couple of weeks ago went out in the car one evening to a couple of places then all of a sudden it wouldn't start. Wouldn't turnover nothing all electrics fine. Left it over night started 1st time. Same thing again last week. Drove somewhere came back to vehicle 30 mins later and it was dead again. After a few goes it started up again no problem.

Happened again Sunday night when I came to leave work. Thought it was an immobiliser issue so tried to re sync the fob by pressing lock button 5 times but it didn't work and the drivers door stopped unlocking with the fob (it does however lock on the fob). Left car over night when I returned tried a few times and eventually got it going and it starts everytime since however drivers door still won't unlock on the fob.

The little red light flashes really fast when I lock it for a few seconds then goes back to flashing once every few seconds again. Flashes fast when I unlock too but then goes out. This is the same when it starts or doesn't!

I've tried to get the EKA code from IRC but I'm still waiting

Could this be as simple as a battery going in the fob or a bad wiring connection somewhere? Why has my drivers door lick suddenly stopped unlocking with the fob?

Any clues?

Mick

When you say the electrics are fine but it won't start do you mean all the lights on the dash work but the engine doesn't turn over at all ? If this is the case then probably the little brown wire that goes onto the starter(not the big thick one) needs taking off and cleaning up along with the terminal on the starter. They get dirty after a while and cause the dash lights to come on but no turning of engine.
