Hi

We have encountered an issue with our Disco 3. On a number of occasions when going to star the engine, I turn the key and the car is dead. First time this happened I assumed flat battery. However opened and closed the door and tried again and it started. This has happened several times since and always if you open and close the door once or twice it starts ok. I do not know if this is coincidence or not! Checked the connection to the battery and that all seems ok. Any ideas?
When it happens the clock etc all reset.

Is there a clicking sound from under the bonnet somewhere, at the same time the engine doesn't start?

The door thing is a mystery. Maybe there's a bad connection somewhere.

Does sound like a bad connection somewhere. More in depth investigation is needed, so your best bet might be an auto electrician.

Before splashing out your dosh do check the batt is properly connected at the terminals, the starter motor's connections are all good and tight and all the earthing points are clean rust free and tight.
If the clock resets itself it implies for a fraction of a second there is no current to it.
This does imply a bad connection which then remakes itself.
