Hello,
I don't post many threads as most problems are already covered by previous people, however I am having a problem with my Series 3 cutting out momentarily and then restarting once stopped.

I have a petrol 2.25l series 3 that cuts out while driving - no dash lights nothing. Once stopped and key returned to initial position and then cranked it starts.

Only recently started happening. I have checked all ignition system connections and they are all tight (in the engine bay at least).

Last summer I changed the ignition leads and plugs but that was 8 months ago.

My initial thinking is could it be the coil breaking down.

Any thoughts anyone?

As always, grateful for any help.

You would still have oil/charge lights on if the coil has failed. I'd guess the ignition switch is dieing.
On my 110 this is replaceable for around £10 or £15, I should imagine series are replaceable too.

Thinking about it, I had the whole dash and ignition switch out last year to draw and refurb the steering box.
Maybe the bashing of the ignition switch lock nuts has caused a problem with the ignition switch.

Easy to replace, but apparenty difficult to source a spare or salvaged part I hear.

Quick search turned this up at paddocks, bit dearer than a 90 one though.

The easiest way to check if the problem is with the switch, is to hot wire the ignition, a wire from the + of the battery direct to the coil. If it stops cutting out, the problem is in the switch or its wiring.
