If any one can point at anything less than - replace the alternator....
The battery picture, non charge light, popped on, the lights dimmed, the belt was ok, the engine didn't overheat and some worried minutes later after a re start all was fine - that was 2 weeks ago and all was fine until now ....now its off when engine cold, disappears on a restart or dropping to tick over etc. and after a few minutes messing about stays on permanently, the connections are OK, cant take the exciter plug off with the alternator in place, 2003 with all sorts of good any pollution stuff ;) . the two cables that run to the exciter plug have got hit against and oil cooler pipe, its an auto, but only the outer protective sleeve shows it,
Only suspicious, to me, point is the alternator was very oily after a front seal leak, could it get through to brushes or such like and effect circuit when hot ?
yours, grasping a straws...any ideas greatly received,
Michael, Baltic blue.

The only thing you should rule out before changing the alternator is the warning lamp's circuit so when the warning comes one take a voltmeter and measure the voltage on the battery with engien running... if you get good voltage(around 14V) but the light is on the problem is not tghe alternator but the warning lamp circuit
