after some suggestions please

about 3 weeks ago , parked up at work and noticed a pool of coolant under the bumper dripping from the front grille.
opened the bonnet and underside of bonnet had coolant on it and the bonnet release catch area was covered in coolant. couldn't see any leaks.

refilled it and no more leaks including an 8.5 hr stop start journey from devon to surrey. engine temp never above 98.5 degrees (hawkeye)

then yesterday same thing , twice , puddles under the car and nearly 2 litres to refill.

been out today , taken nipper to school and come back , left engine idling for 20 mins header cap on and off engine stopping and starting revving to 2500 rpm and holding it for a few secs , NO LEAKS. Hawkeye shows no faults and engine temp never above 92 degrees .
I cant get it to duplicate the fault?

I'm wondering if it could be the pressure cap or thermostat with intermittant faults? the system doesn't seem to be over pressurising as the hoses are all soft when running or stopped.
any thoughts appreciated

sounds like either a faulty pressure cap or coolant overpressurising only when the turbo is spooled up hence you not noticing it when stationary. I'd try a new cap and see how it goes after that.

Thanks Ratty
forgot to mention
its a D2 V8 ON LPG if this makes a difference.
I think a pressure cap is a good starting point.

I'd still start with a pressure cap. If that doesn't solve it and you have no visible signs of a leak you could get a pressure test done on the coolant system. They basically pump the system up with a hand pump to impersonate the usual coolant pressure. This is done when cold to stop the coolant evaporating as it leaks and to stop you getting burnt/scalded.
