hi Guys

have a freelander td4 brakes work great most of the time but now and again when you push the foot break it feels like there is no servo there it is a very intermitent problem but is unnerving any ideas would be gratefully recieved

thanks
Gordon

The TD4 vac pump in addition to supplying the brake servo, also operates the EGR valve and the turbo via the boost solenoid. The small bore rubber pipework is prone to chafing and splitting, partcularly at the EGR valve connection and to the passenger side of the air filter housing where it can easily get trapped when the air filter is being changed. Take a careful look at all these pipes.

Just a thought - do you have ABS?, we have recently had ABS problems (see our recent thread), including brake failure on our Discovery. On ours it was ABS ECU & ABS wheel sensor - we repaced those parts and now all sorted.

I know what you mean about it being unnerving, ours would be fine for a day or two, then fail 1/2 doz times in one day - I still find myself hovering overing over the handbrake even now its sorted - just in case!

Hope you get it sorted.
