Having tradrd my 97 300tdi for a very clean 01 td5 ES auto with 31k miles, I am really happy with it. The heated windscreen and seats are great these cold mornings!

Just one thing though, the interior lights do not come on with the openning of doors or unlocking. They will only work with the buttons on each of the three units. What controls these lights, is there a relay that I can check?

Any thoughts?

Nah, I can use the switch to turn on the light, but when I put it in the middle position, it does nothing when you open the door.

Now to complicate matters, my fob does not open the doors in the mornings, I have to do that with the key in the door. All is well during the day when the fob locks and unlocks the doors. But first thing each morning, it is key in the door to get in.

My indie has said that it could be a loose earth at high level in the roof near the receiver and he will check it when he takes it for its NCT (Irish MOT).

Could these little problems be linked?

Sorry if this is stupid question, but where are the door switches on a td5, had a very quick look last night but could not see them.

The lights do not come on if any door opens.

Door switches I think are integeral to the locks !!

Q . . when you stop, and turn the ignition off, and before you pull the key out, do the interior lights come on ?

No,

The only way to get the interior lights on is to switch them on manually at thet switch location.

it is a bit annoying but not critical.

Possible the BCU is not working rite, cos it should see when a door is open, and also sense an ignition switch on/off to work the interior lights.

Another Q, if you lock it with a door nopt shut properly (on purpose, just on the 1st catch) you should get a 'mis-lock' warning one beep of the car alarm ?

If this is also not working, then it's more an likely the BCU that's fooked !!!

(or) a loose connection, or earth conneection(s)

hi had exactly the same problem tried everything in the end a friend cured/bodged it by running a feed/earth from the light around the ignition barrel this did everything the interior lights did ie fade come on with fob etc this worked for me and cost a couple of beers.

I do get the 'mis-lock' warning if a door is not closed, so the sensors are working. My indie reckons a bad earth could be the issue and that it may be linking with the fob not working in the mornings. He will check it out when he does the NCT (MOT)

I know it needs to be replaced, the little flaashes on the dash after locking are telling me that! Can I just change them and all will be fine, or does it need to be reprogrammed?

Apologies for basic question, but I do not have an owners manual
