Contemporary reports of London before the invention of the motor car
described traffic jams of dog-carts (two-wheeled carts pulled by
horses) and the streets soaked with horse **** and **** so don't bet
on it!

nah, any time a horse shat on the street people used to rush out and collect
it to put on the garden.

Mind, I used to think it dead good that they still used the horse-drawn
drays for local beer deliveries. most amusing to watch the expressions of
people in cars behind it, too...

best thing is to chuck it in the compost bin to rot for 6 months, as
fresh manure can burn plants..... or so titchmarsh says.....

Depends how much there is... London prior to and during the "big
stink" even tried mechanical sweepers to clear it all up, and employed
teams of people to clear up after the horses but despite that the
streets were still paved with **** in traffic hotspots. Human ****
was the worst problem in most areas but in the traffic spots the horse
**** built up too fast.

Nothing much has changed in london IMHO ;-)
