inter cooler pipe

I went to change the alt belt today to one that matched the part no but when i went to loosen the alt bracket, i found two sliding brackets? I took them both off but was unable to push the alt down far enough to put the belt on because the inter cooler pipe comes through between the block and the alt body and bracket. I have a 200tdi in a 110 from a disco, about 93/4 i think. Is this the normal set up or do i have to fit a longer belt( which is whats fitted now but too wide). Interested to hear or see how yours 200tdi conversions are set up.

Can't help personally but found this on the net.

Can some one please help me out and tell me the visual difference looking from above the difference between a disco 200tdi and a 300tdi, as my local scrappy has a few in and a few engine that are already out and i want to make sure, i get the right one to pick parts off.

Any help would be appreciated???

An easy way is to look at belt - the 200Tdi uses standard 'V' belts, whereas the 300Tdi uses a flat "Poly-Vee" serpentine belt with automatic tensioner.

There are lots of other detail changes - turbo position, water pump position etc, but the belt type is a very easy check.

Also the 200 has the dipstick on the side and is a metel loop, whereas the 300 is in the centre at the front and is a yellow plastic T.

The disco 200tdi has the turbo positioned lower down than the defender 200tdi. It's a very noticeable difference so as a result the intercooler pipes would be in different places.

Why don't you just take the intercooler pipe off to replace the belts then put it back on once you're done?

As far as im aware, i had a disco 200tdi fitted when my last one died. The mechanic said he moved the turbo to the higher position with possibly bits from my old lump.
Getting the correct belt on isnt a problem. The problem is its to short because the intercooler pipe, which is positioned between the block, alt bracket and alt, is stopping the alt from being pushed down far enough for the belt to go over the pulleys. That is why i think i have two slideing brackets bolted together and want to know how other 200tdi owners alt. is set up.

If the old belt is still intact can you not just go get another of the same size? Maybe of miss read you question but if im with you, the replacement belt is not the correct size?

Yes i can do that, its just that i was given the correct belt for an early 90,s disco 200tdi and it dont fit which made me wonder what engine do i really have

Often have odd sizes for my machinery and they always seems to find the correct one.
