i nearly fainted when i transferred from a freelander to a disco, first quote was £1,500

got it down to £600 , as always is the post code, i'm 51 , clean licence , held for nearly 30 x years , 7 x ncb, landy parked on drive , restricted mileage to 3,000 miles per year

that's with A plan and no other company could match them

fully comp, protected ncb, full breakdown cover, inc being bought home from anywhere in the uk , 25% extra on write off value

still think it's disgusting , disco is group 33 , thk god i didn't buy the hse model, that's group 37

my freelander was group 23
It's well known D3 insurance is high due to the number of owners who burn them rather than finishing oft the never ending list of repairs. Put's up the price due to the risk of a claim.

Have you tried SAGA, Insurance for over 50's .

Yer have to be careful of cheap insurance polices. Some are cheap for a reason. Like the way they handle a claim if yer crash and need recovery. Some will only recover to the recovery companies yard, including yerself. Yer vehicle is then fixed locally and sent back to you or sent to their preferred "agent" repair company. This can sometimes be on shared transport when the next car transporter is passing. From stories on ere cheap insurance is often slow to pay out, don't cover all costs of recovery (limit 50 miles as an eggsample) and don't cover all of yer no claims bonus (max 10 years) and yer loose anything above 10 years when yer move to a different insurance company, even if you int put in a claim. Some are more likely to sell oft yer car as scrap rather than fixing it as the cost of repair when considering what it's worth in parts is taken into consideration. I once had to hand over insurance doc's for a courtesy car when mine were int garage. The doc's were handed to a few peeps to look at. The insuring broker had used a company registered in Malta. The peeps at the garage talked to me about this and I changed company soon after.

understand where ur coming from, concerning what is and what isn't covered , have only really taken notice of my own insurance for the last 8 years , small print etc , before that it was company car insurance , before then and being honest i didn't really bother reading all the small print, was in the late 80-90s

simple things like breakdown cover, if u break down within a certain distance of ur home they won't tow u, also in an accident as u say will only go to an approved garage , has indeed been abit of a mind field

did get the full breakdown cover, bit more expensive than the normal special offers as when u start reading into them , adding what u require it works out more expensive than the normal priced scheme

has indeed been a really eye opener for me concerning all the small print exclusions , have always rang the ins company before hand and spoken to them , also good to also see what other people think of a particular company , as u quite rightly say, do they pay out, how long does it take, what they do and don't cover

learnt a considerable amount from here , also ins company that wanted to increase my premium by going from being married to a widower , is indeed a minefield and know u and i joke around a lot., but u have given me some extremely helpful advice in the past about ins and breakdown cover , to which ive always been grateful about:D:D

To be honest if I put on some of the popular mods on ere, like bigger tyres, extra lights and increased power, then I get refused far too often. Most internet insurance quotes dun't like these mods and yer have to talk to them on the phone. When you do and they question you about mods I always ask if they get many requests from others. No is often the answer. I think a lot of peeps get by, by not telling the insurance company about mods to keep the options/costs down. I think this is partly why figures for uninsured are so high. In the event of a claim they make checks and find they haven't been honest when buying insurance, then average this against all customers they insure. This is typical of younger drivers with hot hatch type vehicles. You see it often on the police programs. Also simple things like insured only to drive to one place of work, when they drive to 3 different locations.

Full breakdown cover is a must these days. Vehicles are too heavy to carry home when broke'd.

my son had to get a black box fitted to his car, they wouldnt insure him otherwise, his premium was still over 2k , that is for a small Vw Up

totally agree , plus is a suprising factor that is also forgotten, of how many times u see a very expensive stereo upgrade being installed , with some policies only covering up to £100 , with aftermarket systems

have indeed made sure i got full breakdown cover, for that u never know scenery , to think it must cost 150-200 to get recovered off a motorway , spending out £60-70 for the peace of mind that in the event u break down u and ur vehicle can get home from anywhere in the u.k.

think the crash for cash and so many false whip lash claims have certainally put a large factor towards higher ins premiums

Have you tried us for insurance yet? If you wanted to drop me a PM I'd be happy to arrange a quotation for you.
