even using go compare and compare the meerkat it is that much more expensive, (robbing c u next tuesdays)

hope some of you guys are having a better time insuring your ranges than i am.......:mad::mad:

suggest yu search, as this is a regular question. However some insurers will give you a discount if yu say you are a member of Landyzone. Try it - whay have you got to loose?

Hi

I always get the best quote from Adrain Flux and they will haggle with you and just beat your best price etc.

give them a try online with a free call back service.

I had the same problem, and found out that all the insurance groups have changed from 1 -20 to 1 -50 as of 1st January 2011
What should now happen is that your car group should roughly double but that does not count on a 4x4.
My P38 HSE was group 14 now it has jumped to 35, so in fact it is now more than double and reflects on you renewal price.
Worst thing about this change is that alot of people are unaware of it as it was introduced with very little publicity.
any way, try Lancaster Insurance, Adrian Flux or even Admiral.

If you have more than one car try getting a multi car policy, it may be cheaper all round.

Check out your new insurance group on ....http://www.thatcham.org/abigrouprating/index.jsp?page=343

Check out your new insurance group on ....thatcham.org | Research | Insurance Group Rating | ABI Group Rating

It won't double as going from 20 to 50 isn't double. It should go up by 150% (or the old groups multiplied by 2.5). This change does not load your policy. It merely gives insurance more range to place new cars. Rather than lumping most performance cars into group 20. It wasn't made widely public as it makes sod all difference.

Depend on how old the car is ...I alway insure my cars "Classic" (As long as their over 10 years old its not illegal)

I had a 4.6 HSE Rangie with me & mrs on the policy 7500 miles yearly (NCD don't count on "Classic" ins)

Total cost £168 per year with AA at home & recovery thrown in fer good measure..

My C70 T5R Volvo now cost £174 with the same restrictions (7500 miles ect) & the same AA cover ......

try here .....http//www.peterbestinsurance.co.uk/ContactUs.aspx

As I said as long as its pre 2002 regd then you'll get covered ...........

It obviously does make a difference, otherwise why change it! Anyway Not getting into the politics of insurance, just think they will do anything to rip off the motorist nowadays.

Thatcham, the motor insurance repair research centre, is behind the new groups and explains that the old 1-20 bandings were too narrow to reflect the true cost of repairing certain models, especially more niche cars such as small people carriers and off-roaders.
Now, the revised 1-50 groups will more accurately reflect how much a car costs to repair following an accident.
Most cars will see their insurance group roughly double. According to Thatcham, as a general rule if the group has roughly doubled then premiums will not change drastically. If the change is more than double, your car could cost more in premiums, and less than double means insurance will probably be cheaper.
Quoted from Parkers website regarding the new groups.

Like Claw, I have my classic on classic insurance policy. with Footman James -- £130 / year, unlimited mileage. They were even happy with the transplanted engine (m51 in classic) - everyone else I spoke to wouldn't even quote for it.

That's massively generalised for the public. 'Roughly doubled' has to mean the simple up scaling of the groups to meet the new criteria which is 2.5 times. Just as 20 is 2.5 times smaller than 50, 14 is 2.5 times smaller than 35. 95% of cars under went this change. Only a handful of the newest cars (generally >2009 had their group altered to either a lower or higher grouping. Some group 20 cars also met a further group rise to stop a glut of cars at group 50.

Premiums go up each year to match the rising annual cost of pay outs as well as insurance taxation by the government.

know so many people tat have had problems and wont touch them any more.

just a word of warning on them.

try NFU, doing good discounts for new customers on landrovers, DO NOT use, ADMIRAL, give you great price initially but as soon as you make changes, ie change car massive premiums incure. We moved 3 miles down road before xmas and they wanted extra £760!!! I kid you not, cancelled and went to NFU, they're great, no charges for changes etc

cheers guy will try these companys, insurers are never consistant though adrian flux wanted a fortune and lancaster said they wont insure dhse range.
thanks again

just did confused.com for my 1997 4.6 hse. 5000miles a year and used as a second car etc, £288. Lancaster!!Go figure???

I just insured my new RRC Soft Dash last week.

I must have tried every insurance company out there, and Footman James came back with the lowest quote (on a classic policy) by quite a way.

I can't get anywhere near any of them figures with anyone cheapest I've got is around 440 with me and the wife havin no ckaims or points and a healthy ncb. Thanks for the suggestions though.
