Hey,
As you may know from my numerous questions already posted on here - i'm currently restoring a '77 series 3 2.25ltr petrol. It's got to the point where I need to start shopping around for insurance quotes to know if taking her back up to uni in late september is going to cost more than the rebuild! I know its hard to give a rough figure - but I honestly have no idea what she'll be worth. I know how much i've spent, but I know thats not reflective of what she's worth (I know you never get anywhere near what you put in financially - but thats not why we do it is it?). Below are details about her (note - body work is done though still needs to be sprayed then fitted to her, but all the below parts have been brought and are in my workshop getting worked on);

- Nut & Bolt complete restoration (£580 nut and bolt kit (genuine l/r fastners))
- New Galvanised Chassis (Spray painted black (correctly primed - t-wash, acid etch etc)
- New Galvanised Bulkhead
- Completely rebuilt gearbox (Main & transfer)
- New fuel tank
- New parabolic suspension on Monroe Gas Shocks
- Rebuilt steering box
- Galvanised sills
- All Galvanised cappings and trims (i.e. windscreen & flashings)- re galvanised
- extensive work to rear tub - new floor, rear quarters, bottom supports
- new front wings (inner & outer both sides)
- new sills
- near door tops (both sides)
- repaired doors (bottoms - both sides)

All re-sprayed to a good standard in Bronze Green (roof cream).

Like I said, I'm not after an exact figure, but just an idea? So I know what to put on those forms,

Cheers,

Matt

managed to get the worn out oil burning dented pile o bits in my profile pic valued for a grand...

And yes, I did send them pictures...

Whats wrong with finding a decent broker, proving what you have - and have spent, then negotiate an agreed value policy.
Its all very well to say its worth less than you have spent and for people to take the p-ss,but I look at it a different way.You have taken time, lots of effort and money to create a long term solution to a need - some insurance "operative" somewhere will recognise what you are about and that you are less likely to take silly risks with it,AND make sure it is safe when unattended etc.Trawling through the insurance ads should turn up a decent quote.
Let us know who you find because I hopefully wont need my traders policy forever, and I'm in the initial stages of building a galv chassis/bulkhead S3 with a 200TDI that I never intend to sell - so I'll be looking for a similar thing.
