Hi all,
I'm 16 at the moment and have just brought a land rover series 3, 2.25 petrol. It needs a lot of work doing to it and it doesn't even work at the moment. So by time I finished working on it and it is road worthy I will be 17. I'm trying to get an idea of the cost of insurance. What is everyones experience & how much can I expect to pay as a learner?
thank you
Eddie

hi eddie
well insurance depends on lots of things, area, age, no claims, etc etc etc.... you may be able to get classic insurance - (get lr mag and look in there for numbers etc) but until you phone up and give them your details i dont think anyone cn answer this qustion for you
ps, i have swb series 3 1974 it cost me £100 per year

Do you recon it would be expesive for a 17 year old learner though on my land rover

Im now 19 and it cost me £1400 for a 1966 2a a couple of years ago - going by what my mates pay its pretty comparable to any normal 1.2litre car insurance wise.
Dont for any reason mod it in any big way as no insurance companies will touch it until you are 25! (discovered after several hours getting a quote for changing from 2.25 petrol to 2.25 diesel, not exactly a performance mod :p but glad i checked 1st!!)

We have a 1976 2.25 petrol, I could not get any insurance for under £2.5k for my son, but now he is 19, we have £1,100 tf&t from Aviva, in his name and starting with zero no claims discount, if no claims it will drop towards £600 in two years time (also includes me as named driver) be patient

did you try landy only specialist?that sounds steep. That said insurance seems to be jumping up at the mo.Adrian flux were reasonable for me v8

Try adding female/elderly relatives to the insurance, adding my mother saved nearly 50quid! Why this could be is anyones gues..

None of the specialists would insure my son at a sensible (and affordable) price until aged over 23/25 or similar, you could take out a policy for £3k or more but not worth it, just daylight robbery
