Thought i should share an article i read in last weeks news of the world regarding a new insurance law due in april which i feel will catch a lot of us out. I will type the article as printed. From april your car needs insurance even if you are not using it on the road (unless you have registered it as "off road" ). It is called continuous insurance enforcement, and if there is any break in cover a warning letter and potential fine could hit you. This may have been covered already but i have not been on the site for a few days.

well i'm sure those theiving pikey cnuts will take a lot of notice of that 1:mad:

when its off the road it should be sorn so will only be a problem when parked up with tax,
ffs its only the law abiding folk who will get hit again then, cause another earner for the goverbent

Who cancels their insurance or doesn't get it, while the car is parked up taxed? If you keep a car off road, you SORN it and don't need insurance. If you use it on the road, even occasionally, you need insurance and tax. Having tax but no insurance is an irrelevant anomoly.

Continuous Insurance Enforcement for April 2011

Correct..........so long as declared SORN the new rules don't apply; it's apparently designed to catch up with peeps that Insure and tax their vehicle, then cancel insurance payments, direct debits etc.

Personally I think it could prove a damn good idea if it gets un-insured winkers off the road!!!!

Thanks for starting this thread. I read about this proposal a short while ago, and assumed it was to cover all vehicles regardless of on/road status. I suppose if we are all legal and above board no problem.

Andy.

The one thing that stood out in this article was the reference to a call centre. Why, yet another mind numbing phonearound place subsidised solely by the paying customer. Who remembers the days when you went into the local broker, paid and walked out with a cover note then the certificate arrived a week or so later.

Well if its to catch them that insure and tax there car then cancel direct debits etc then that means more "winkers" off road as some one put then surely that should mean insurance should go down when the next premium is due up for us motorist that stay legal right ? wrong they never go down only up i know its wrong but i can see why some "winkers" do what they do just my opinion but me id rather be legal each to there own regards Jeff.
