Hey, im nearly 20 and about to take my driving test. I have a 86 110 with a 200tdi and would like to keep this as my first car.

I know this has been coverd a million times before but how do i go about getting cheap insurance on a land rover? Iv herd people say go to NFU and Footman James ect, but most of these dont take people under 21/25. Could any one point me to a place which would insure me.

Also would a 110 be too expensive, would like to keep it under 2k to insure or would getting a S3/S2a/Lightweight be a better idea?

Thanks for any help

been discussed hundreds of times, doing it once more wont bring any new fantastic way of getting insurance, your nearly 20 so insurance should be around 1500 area on such an old vehicle

im 18 with a years no claim i pay 1850 on my 1994 200tdi 90 thats with the green insurance company cheapest by a long shot

nfu wont touch young drivers unless your on mummy and daddys

as for your age i agree with v8 disco you should be looking at 1500 but you have an 86 110 so its had an engine conversion some insurance companys dont like that and will rape you for it not good news when your a new driver

The best I could find for my 18 year old son last year for a landy was 2500 quid. Guess what, he hasn't got a landy. 1200 ****in quid to insure a poxy fiat punto is still bloody robbery though.

i was 19 wen i insured mine and i am now 20 and i went with adriain flux cheapest by far for me !!!! still 800 tho...

so just bend over and take it like a man !!! sorry but for any car and ur 1st insurance is goin to be over a £1000.

but give adrain flux a ring !

hope it helps

Insured my 300tdi Disco with the Co Operative for £380, fully comp in my own name at 20 years old.. Give them a try, they only wanted £500ish for my old 110 when I was 18 - 19. However I have had no claims since I was 17 years old so expect to pay a bit more.

Do What i did when i was a new driver..... get a traders policy.... im thinking about going down that road again so i can buy a lil cheap run around to get me to work in the week and havin my disco on for the weekends!!!! i was with compi car when i was 21 and had only been driving for 6 months. i had a 1994 bmw 525i in black all goodfella gangstered up as my missus called it.... although it only had 18" alpinas on it... and a 2001 xsara diesel, citroen saxo vts on a r reg and my drift bus mercedes e300 petrol on a private plate so i cant remember the year off top of my head.......... i had a limit of 12 cars at any one time for £150 a month.... i got quotes couple ofmonths ago and it was down to £90 per month... good luck anyhows

really mine £62.50 equiv £10,000 private indemnity 20,000 customers indemnity fully comp and accompaniment insurance third party
excess is £250.

I'm 18 with no years no claims and I've got a Defender 300Tdi had a chassis swap and been declared manufactured in 1987 but first registered 2003.

You'd think in that situation I wouldn't get insured but I bought the Total Offroad magazine Yearbook and there's a Insurance section with a list of 4x4 Specialists, after ringing every company I soon found out no one want's to insure under 25's apart from Express Insurance.

I pay £2400 a year which yeah is alot, but it will be only time I pay that price, goes down after a year even if I claim because I'll be 19 and have a years driving experience.

It's ****ing worth it though pal, just bite the bullet and go for it!

Make sure you go for a 4x4 specialist so it saves messing about if anything goes wrong.

I've got greenlaning cover too.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Todd.

when i was 18 i paid 1450 for my 1987 90 with admiral. when i was 19 with a years no claims it was 500 with adrian flux. both of these were TPFT. footman james was no good for me as they would only insure me on a classic cars policy, and so i wouldnt be building up a no claims bonus.

i bought my 110 V8 when i was 20, and paid 650 fully comp, with 2 years no claims. this is with the aa.

best advice from me, stick your details into confused.com etc, see what prices you come up with then ring some specialists and see if they will try and beat it.

NFU were no good for me, my mum, sister, step sister and stepdad are all insured with them. in fact the local broker who they use is a friend of my mums (not a close friend maybe aquiantance) anyway they have always given me a quote but not very competitve, around the 2k mark every time.

whos that with? im paying £80 a month under my dads name! haha

I used to think this was ok but apparently it's not if you are the main user of the vehicle. If caught, you can get in big trouble.
