Can anyone shed some light on a problem.

My water temp and fuel gauge both read wrong. Temp gauge is always hot (car is not) and fuel gauge won't go below half.

Things I've done:

new senders, new voltage regulator (on the back of the alternator) and pulled the dash apart looking for a voltage stabiliser.

My gauges are getting 10v
I've found a small rectangle board which doesn't look like any voltage stabilizer from google images and a another box with Lucas printed on and not much else. Has heatsink fins and 2 screws holding it to the roof of the dash. Looks like it earths through the casing and screws.

If anyone says use the search - I shall unleash the full wrath of the titans on you :) hours of searching pre this thread.

Many thanks

Has it had the engine changed at any point? May be the incorrect temp sender for the gauge.

Also its possible to adjust your fuel sender merely by bending the wire that the float is attached to until the gauge reads what it should. Or perhaps the float is sticking on something. Either way take the fuel sender out and make sure its moving freely

oops forgot to add year, engine etc

It's a 1990 200tdi.
It's been doing it since I got it.
I have changed the engine since

Il check the fuel sender again because I can't remember if I did when I installed it. Most likely.
Mite take a picture of the 2 boards behind the dash while I'm there.

Also a lot of bulbs have blown on the instrument dash. Previous owner was a dab hand with electrics lol
