I have a 1986 Landrover 90 that I have owned for 18 years and I am having trouble with a rear indicator and to cut the story short when as I unscrew the instrement & warning light pack the indicater starts to work and as I tighten it up off it goes so I presume I need a new pack or printed curcut. I am told this could be one of several so could any one advise me on this. The vehicle is a 1986 C reg.

The only affect moving the warning lights should have is on the indicator telltale. Before you spend money on a new bit, have a look at the wiring from the indicator switch and hazard switch - it's more likely to be a fault there.

Sounds like it maybe an earth return fault

Thank you for the replies, behind the panel all wires go to two conecters fitted over the printed circuits. I am a retired time served eletrician, these two answers just don't seem to cover the problem. I think there could be a crack in the circuits that open and close if tightened or opened and if I new how to identify the type of panel with the circuits on it I may then fix it.

One of those wires at the multi plug is the tell tale supply from the indicator circuit. However it doesn't stop the indicator from working if it's disconnected - as per my original post. If you have a multi meter, it should be easy to trace the fault when the indicators are not working - earth through the bulbs, then wiring loom, then hazard switch, then indicator switch to the indicator relay.

If it's any help, the hazard switch is probably the most common source of faults with indicators, maybe moving the dash is moving one of it's wires a little.

Sorry for the late reply, I checked everything out with the multi meter but found nothing but I had the luck to get talking to a man who has bits and pieces from land rovers and he gave me the small panel that fits into the big panel that has the speedometer etc and since putting it in my indicaters have been OK.
