Hi All,
I'm looking at buying a Disco 2 but it's one of the ones that defiantly does not have a centre diff lock (I've checked...). Other than that, it's a very tidy vehicle however the CDL was one of the things that ideally I wanted. How difficult is it to replace the transfer box with one with a CDL? Is it a direct swap out? Old one out, new one in?
Many Thanks,
Spot.

Excellent! Thank you for confirming that. A good bargaining point on the price but an ‘easy’ solution then.

No worries, there’s a great 4x4 scrap yard a few miles from me so I’m sure that neither parts will be a problem.

Before you go to the expense of getting the CDL/T-box lever, it would be best to check that your transfer box was built with the internals for CDL. Some were, some weren't.
The easiest way to check is to get out and get under to feel for the CDL operating spigot. You'll find it on the top of the T-box, just above the output flange for the forward prop shaft. If it isn't there then it's going to mean a replacement transfer box.

I fitted cdl to my disco 2 by just swopping the front output housing for one that had it already fitted, it’s a squeeze but can be done with transfer box still on the car.
There’s a write up of how it’s done on the Ashcroft website

Mine was factory fitted

According to the receipt it was a £250 option when it was built.

Was over £33,000
