Hi all as a newbie i absolutely expect to get shot down in flames and told to search the forums for this basic information ;) and i totally accept that so on that basis i will proceed.
For many years i have be toying with getting myself into 4x4 and off road to be able to go where no man has gone before leaping over gorges and getting covered in mud so i finally took the plunge and purchased myself a beautiful Discovery 1 300 tdi auto and yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
My weapon of choice has had a few mods already eg normal under body guards plus rear prop shaft doughnut removed and a fun little knob that when i turn it gives warp speed and creates a thick black smoke screen to enable quick getaways.
Now to probably the most technical question ever posted and i am sure none of you have thought of but here goes and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be gentle .
:mad::mad::mad:What tyres can i fit on my machine:p:p:p:p
My thoughts are and as this has been dreamed of for many years i have an image in my head of what my beast will look like so my main reason for the post is a sanity check.
2" body lift + 2" suspension medium, BF Mud 285/75/16 with modular ET-25, anti roll bar removed, extended brake pipes, dislocation cones front and rear and chop my arches and arch extensions and anything else you knowledgeable people can suggest.
The main reason for this is i have found i have been beaching myself on the huge ruts that most of you hooligans have caused on a lot of the trails so i need more axle height and the reason for the suspension lift is the OEM is definitely a bit on the saggy side which currently matches the owner who could also do with a body lift but that's a whole other story .
So is this worth doing I am assuming i am going to kill bearings possibly axles increase top end and loose acceleration (but i do have my boost knob) but my thinking is firstly tyre height less grounding and secondly it will make me smile every time i look at it with my big bad wwwide tyres.
Any abuse will be much appreciated.

I’ve been fine laning on 245/75/16’s at standard height, any more than that and you’ll need to trim lots. I needed a small trim on mine (Kumho MT51’s), apparently some have not required it. Have a search though, it’s been covered so many times before. For pay and play by all means create a monster but you won’t really need it for laning, anything that badly damaged will get closed soon enough.

Hi Adam thanks for your reply apart from pay and play the main place i have been going is Salisbury Plane and a couple of local lanes but it could just be to much sag in the OEM,I don't mind doing the trimming.

Not somewhere I’ve been, if it’s the axles grounding then tyre height needs to be the focus. I did find on standard tyres I dragged the axles in ruts defenders got through because of their extra tyre height.

IMHO, the EDC auto's are potentially doomed due to the non availability of parts, specifically ERR3337 #4 injector ( with the needle lift sensor ). Ask me how I know  - The FIP can be changed and tuned, ( easily ), a larger intercooler fitted, ( not quite as easy ), and performance will be way beyond what EDC is capable off. Smoke is also reduced.

The new MOT regs require EGR "stuff" to be fitted at the moment .... If they are extended OR interpreted as meaning that all the factory fitted emissions control "stuff" remains intact, then clearly, this is going to become a major issue.....YMMV

I'd thus suggest that you obtain various spares for the EDC system before you do much else.

Don't get me started on lifts and such - OMO, but it's a waste of time and money - if the vehicle won't go with decent tyres on, then take up knitting or something... ;) - as always you are free to spend your money on what you want, it is after all your money.

( and I'm not trying to flame you ... but am happy to, should the need arise :D )

Prob deeper than ours but you've got short arms lol :p:D;)

Almost for got to welcome along the op (welcome btw) & where's the pics of this disco ;)
Cheeky oik:p

There's a bloke around the corner from me who runs a 200tdi on 33's with a six inch lift and he reckons it handles OK but I'm not convinced
I'll stick with 265's and a 2" lift as it's a nice height for getting in and out of :D

Don't help when I'm up at 02:30 for work and I get home and have to light the wood burner and sort tea as my wife gets home later than me  That's why I've bought a cheap run about so I can take the disco off the road for a few weeks to sort a couple of jobs.....

FFs up at that time I do not envy that shift
I got rid of our log burner as the dam thing was always out if you were out all day now
we have a multifuel burner & use ovoids/nuggets as they will glow all day with the air
flow turned right down & when I come in I just turn the airflow up & away it goes :)

Ultimately it’s your car so do what you want to, I just took the general advice on here that a well maintained standard car on fresh suspension and good tyres will get you nose places if you know what you’re doing with it. It’s the last bit that I’m trying to work on!
