Hi. I have a 2004 range rover and it suffered the water in the boot thing and got the important bits wet. I fixed the water leak and dried everything out but although I had everything up front working (radio/nav/cd/trip comp) I had no sound. Nothing. So I got a new DSP but still no sound. Perm and switched live and good earth but no sound. Does not show up on the menu screen either and nor in the INPA cable diagnostics. Got another BM54 too. When I switched to TV (still analogue so no picture but I do have snow and graphics) it would say at the bottom of the screen mute. I got/get the feeling that something is muting the audio as everything appears ok in the boot. So I started to have a poke around with my INPA lead which has been wonderful with the air ride. I could not talk to the DSP amp so whats wrong there I don't know. As its a second hand amp it stands a chance it doesn't work so its difficult if dealing with unknown items.

Is there a chance there is anyone local ish to southend or anywhere between southend and London that would let me test this DSP so I'm not ****ing in the wind with it?

New problem I have now is that I was in the nav section and accidently activated "bmw colour nav" or something similar (other option was "bmw mono nav") and now the nav unit/front screen is asking for a software cd and that's it. If I can get it off that screen I only have on road and off road nav options and no more trip computer/set/code.
It doesn't seem to time out and disconnecting the MK3 does not reset it either. How can I undo this **** storm I seem to have created? Can I do something to tell the cd rom to not bother with the update and if not, which version of firmware do I need as theres a minefield of versions out there and who knows which to choose?

Help :'(

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed any light.

Steve

It's going to be something really stupid. Someone will come on and say "have you checked the rupture valve on the crushank" and that will be it. Who knew it had one? :D
Getting the nav off this "waiting for software cd" will probably be the annoying bit.

When disconnecting stuff, are you waiting for the Sat Nav drive light to go out first - failure to do this can brick the unit.
The unit isn't bricked. (Yes I do wait for the light, usually after about 5 mins) it's that I clicked on something in INPA that does something I didn't expect. It's now sat waiting for a software CD.
There were 2 options
F1 bmw mk3 mono nav
F3 bmw mk3 colour nav

Thought it was to go into more menu options but it's to install new firmware.
It doesn't time out and I don't know how to reverse this apart from new firmware... but which version?

@Stevie_B
I am having g a slight difficulty following your post but from what I am getting, might be wrong, is there a chance this is a ZCS coding issue ? If so it would be coder help you need.

What's zcs coding?
It's what tells the car what it is and tell the electronics what they are and what they are talking to. It is used by BMW in INPA and can be upset if you press something you shouldn't. There is lots of info out there about it, especially on beemer forums.
My knowledge of it goes as far as I know it exists and I know the above is what it does and if you do something to it,you need a coder, or knowledge of coding to sort it.

P.s I also know BMW now use something termed Vehicle Order , which I believe is the coding successor to ZCS.

P.p.s there is alsomthe chance it has nothing to do with coding, but it's a thought.

You need to put a firmware update disc in to restore the functionality.

Try the download for Range Rover from the site mentioned above

There used to be a site called Neil Oakley or something like that wher eyou could download the firmware update discs from....plus nav discs....

http://www.neiloakley.com/

Have a nosey about on there.....

Plenty of gurus about - patience is a virtue young grasshopper, we all have other lives outside of Landyzone!
There ya go a true, through and through guru, answering.

Thanks for the reply.
I was told that the audio equipment, while using the ikbus (or something) wasn't actually coded and parts were easily interchangeable unlike Speedo heads for instance. They also don't store hard codes. If you put a BM54 into transportation mode via inpa then it does stop it working but that's easily reversed.

Thanks for the reply. I guessed it would but wondered if anyone knew of a reversal to get it out that screen other than applying a fw disc. I did download that RR file but there is no img file in the rar file so it doesn't look like it will work. I'll have to burn one with just the files and see how it goes.

Then a lot of BMW geeks are in for a shock , as they seem to believe there is coding ;) As I said I only know it exists , (because I've been trying to find about coding for something else) but maybe you can work out the magic they speak of

Whatever the issue, I hope you get it sorted :)
