Injector leak results

These are the results of my injector leak test. Number 4 was clearly the worst, but i was wondering if it was worth swapping out number 3 as well.

I bodged the test kit together with some bits i got from work, but I was left wanting when it came to blocking the 'loose' ends. In ended up with 1" wood screws in and weeps of fuel so there is some degree of tolerance to allow for the slightly different weeps.

What do you lot reckon, shall I change both?

no 1 don't look too clever either. 3&4deffo then you can do it again when 1 goes at a later date

Have done this test twice now but didn't find need for the elaborate plumbing.

Just cut a small piece of about 12mm square from an old inner tube and placed it on top of the injector. Removed the clip and connector and pressed it down on to the rubber. This was sufficient to stop the return flow in the pipe from leaking. 'Her indoors' turned the key for about 5 seconds which was enough to see if there was leakage from the top of the injector. Job done in 15mins but a bit longer to change the injector!

Any tips for the afore-mentioned task? looks like I have two to change...

The injectors can sieze in the head. A good soak with penetrating oil for a few hours beforehand can save a lot of time.

Not wanting to hijack this post but I did the leak test tonight after seeing this. I put half a piece of tissue around the tops and turned on the engine. All four leaked a bit in equal measures but only enough to half fill it.

My question is, is this expected and do the injectors leak a little when turned over?

mine were defiately not equal

All of them let out a bit.

the only way to be really sure is to let them leak off for a while into sample pots and to compare. I can post you my little kit if you want to PM your address.

I also whipped out the injectors today.

I say whipped out because they came out a piece of the proverbial after a night soakin in dubbya dee. I must admit, with the talk of siezing in the head i was a litle worried with 94 on the clock. Started up lovely (although it was still a bit warm) so i'm gonna give her a go tomorrow morning. I am confident though, i think i might have cracked it.

first go, no smoke. I just hope that i get a bit of respite now.

Replaced them. I'm gonna rip one of them apart to see if i can overhaul it somehow. It is not as if it is not working, it will just be an internal seal or something. If i manage it, i shall post on here with a procedure so we can all save a few pennies.

stripping em is the easy part, it's the calibration and test afterwards that is tricky, phone round a couple of diesel specialists and get a quote for servicing em instead

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but are there any guides for changing an injector? One of my injectors is leaking and I want to replace it ASAP. I'll spray plenty of WD40 over the injector in question tonight or tomorrow morning and change it tomorrow evening after work if I can get a replacement tomorrow.
