I can’t be certain, but I think I might have cocked my power screw setting up and need an idea of how to get it back to nominal point before trying to adjust.

so the 200tdi disco engined defender I’m j working on at the minute was running really well. I did a load of miles in it recently, no sign of oil smoke, bit of grey black on start up but otherwise pretty good running. I little slow to start without glow plugs, so maybe needing a bit of a tune up?

….so I decided to fit a power steering box as the manual one was knackered. plumbed up with the existing pump and new belt to drive it.
Seemed to work pretty well and engine started and ran fine.

thought I’d change oil while I was at it so then added new 10-40 semi synth.

Noticed engine was idling a little slow now, I guess with the bit of extra load from steering pump?

Then I had a brain fart and started screwing in the power screw rather than the idle screw…doh!

I thought I’d turned it back to where it was, but can’t be certain where it has ended up now.

Now I’m getting a load of white smoke and I can’t get the thing to run more than a couple of seconds before conking out when I press the throttle.
Wasn’t sure about the screw and it felt like fuel starvation, so
I even put a couple of cans of diesel in and changed the fuel filter, in case the gauge had gone iffy, but no change.

I checked the oil and it’s just above minimum on dipstick.

Guessing it must be the power screw, but if it could be miles out I don’t want to knacker things keep playing with it if I might be miles out either way???

Any ideas much appreciated

Mass Panic over!
I hate these random coincidences that send you down the garden path!

So I thought I start from basics and check the fuel was getting through to the filter. After a load of priming all I was getting was a little wheezing sound from somewhere.
Found a cheap Chinese fuel tap in the line, must have just started leaking
Binned that and all’s good again….power screw wasn’t much out either.

I still don’t know quite why you get such large coughs of white smoke when the fuel isn’t getting through properly, but good to know for next time.
